2. TOOL SUMMARY

Moss Forest is a data-driven forest solution that digitizes and automates the main processes required for certifying, and digitally measuring, reporting and verifying (dMRV) REDD+ projects, focusing on private properties but also applicable public territories and traditional communities. The system can be used in the stages of evaluating the technical feasibility of a project, its design and, to a lesser extent, implementation. The stages of a forest carbon credit based on Agriculture, Forestry and Land Use ("AFOLU") project should be developed based on the most recent, highest quality data possible. For the project feasibility analysis stage, the Moss Forest system increases the level of automation of planning and profitability analyses on new endeavors and reduces investment risks as well as other types of uncertainties related to the integrity of the area. The system aims to minimize errors and uncertainties in the planning and design stages that can lead to investment withdrawals or unrealistic estimates of carbon credit generation. What follows is an overview of the modules, steps and processes required for the origination of REDD+ carbon credits in private rural properties and the status of each in relation to the Moss Forest dMRV:

The Measurement module presented below aims to demonstrate how the integration between solid and consistent geographic data, high-resolution satellite images and trained algorithms for understanding forest dynamics underpins the production of data that approximates those obtained in the field. With this, it is possible to manage territories and outline future patterns, such as the risk of deforestation, transforming complex and often decentralized data in several databases into valuable information that responds to the development, MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) and monitoring the stages of an AFOLU project.

In this way, Moss Forest has integrated and processed nationally or internationally recognized methodologies, instruments and protocols for measuring, reporting and verifying the reduction of carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, providing transparency, credibility and traceability with the option of using blockchain technology.
